Event Advertising Free!

Well let’s see, we had the telegraph many decades ago. And, it was a great way to get the word out. We had the pony express and that was a great way to get mail delivered.  And then television and telephone came along.  Both marvelous inventions for their time.  The ability to turn on the TV and watch an program and get the latest on advertisements was the rage. And then, the cell phone and the internet came along.

Event advertising free is not much use unless your event is visible to large number of people, businesses and search engines. In my observation of event advertising it is amazing to see how many “small to mid-sized” businesses are still using print and radio to “get the word out” on their upcoming events.  “Get the word out” meaning publishing and advertising.

In our community these methods of advertising are still very useful. For now!  It is also true that with these methods of advertising the flexibility coupled with mobility once put to paper or digital ad is very costly and time consuming to modify.  I know.  I run a radio ad in our community.  I very much appreciate the people at the local radio station and appreciate their services. However, I can tell you that the cost is “very” expensive to do. The ads are less than 30 seconds and play only a couple of times per day. Is there a better way? I say possibly for now and definitely as time passes.

Pick up the phone and call a radio station and as how much it would cost to run a 30 second ad.  Try the 15 second spots too just for giggles.

Also, to change the radio ad content takes time. In my case it took three weeks to get my radio ad changed and then recorded. You would have to plan well in advance on advertising events using radio so keep that in mind unless you record your own. And heaven help you if you need to change the content. Still to this day Radio advertising pays and we will continue to utilize it into the future. But are the better ways? In my opinion taking into consideration cost and demographics the answer is Yes!

Newspapers and Print ads

Event advertising free is rare.  I run ads in a local newspaper in addition to the local radio station. And again, for the price of one month of newspaper advertising you could subscribe your business for a couple of years.  And again, post all your events for free. Just to be clear. You do not have to purchase a business listing to post events on WhatsHappeningToday.com® for free.
